One of the major issues facing our county, and our State as a whole, is the overwhelming issue with opioid addiction. We see evidence of this blight almost everywhere we go in the county.
The problem is not one that has a simple solution. We must continue to develop, implement, and improve a wide approach from multiple areas of focus throughout our county, and on a State level. There must be coordination from all agencies involved, so that we can work together with a common goal and purpose to help solve this problem.
I will work with the county government, government agencies, law enforcement, and other support agencies to develop a coordinated and comprehensive effort to combat this issue that impacts all areas of our community. I will fight for the funding and grants necessary to fulfill this important goal. I will make sure that Cecil County is on the forefront of combatting this epidemic.
We must develop a multi faceted plan that includes:
- Utilization of proven, evidenced based treatment and support options
- Diminishing, if not eliminating, the stigma associated with drug addiction
- Education and prevention at all levels
Many of these things are already in place on some level in our county. Taking the charge on creating a unified front and coordinated effort to make sure that all interested organizations are aware of each other, including their efforts and available resources. We must improve and promote these programs, and continue to implement more effective practices in this effort so that our children and their children are not faced with these issues the way that we see them on a daily basis.
